Read on if you're thinking about running for a Board seat or volunteering with your Mt Tabor Neighborhood Association (MTNA).
Have you noticed how many current City of Portland Councilors engage actively with their neighborhood associations? Many of them just love their neighborhoods and want to meet their neighbors, but I made a list of 27 more reasons to become a neighborhood association volunteer. (MTNA blog post: https://www.mttaborpdx.org/single-post/27-ways-to-benefit-from-neighborhood-association-participation)
The 2025 MTNA Board member election will be held in May, during the MTNA Annual Meeting, so it may be too late to run for a Board seat, but it's never too late to vote on candidates or prepare to be elected or appointed to an MTNA Board seat.
Read MTNA Bylaws to find out how to qualify for a Board member seat: MTNA Governing Documents are at the MTNA website: https://www.mttaborpdx.org/governing-documents
You may also attend next week's April 16th, 2025, MTNA monthly meeting (or any other MTNA meeting!) and talk to current Board members about their MTNA service.
If you don't want to commit to MTNA Board status, there are plenty of other opportunities for volunteering on a single project (single event volunteers are priceless, so thank you!):
Perhaps you have a new project to propose to the Board (for inspiration, see the email below from our MTNA Board President for a list of MTNA Spring 2024 to Spring 2025 projects).
Volunteer for a single MTNA event, e.g. Clean Up Day, New Neighbor welcome, etc.
Let the Board know there is a particular speaker you’d like them to invite to a meeting (and help spread the word if an event with that speaker is scheduled). The MTNA Contact Us form is at https://www.mttaborpdx.org/connect-contact-us
You live adjacent to another Neighborhood Association (NA) and want to help MTNA collaborate with them on events or projects. For adjacent NAs, see the map near the bottom of this SE Uplift page: https://seuplift.org/connect-with-your-neighborhood/
See you around the neighborhood!
